ENGLEWOOD — The 42nd annual Englewood Art Festival will be held under the trees at Centennial Park, 321 Union Boulevard August 8 and 9. Festival hours are 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
Festivities begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, August 8 with the 26th annual 5KClassic. The start/finish line is on Union Boulevard near Overla Boulevard. Over 200 runners are expected for this event. Pre-race day registration entry is $17 with T-shirt, or $8 without. Entrants wanting shirts must register before July 31. Race day registration is $10 (no shirt) and begins at Kindred Funeral Home at 7 a.m., ending at 7:45 a.m. Extra shirts will be sold on race day for $12 on a first come, first served basis.
The course is a flat, fast route through residential areas with many right turns and one incline followed by a small downhill. Awards will be given to the top overall runner, the top three men and women, and for the various age group winners from age 10 to 60-plus following the race in the Kindred Funeral Home parking lot. Sunday’s festivities begin with the annual Volksmarch. Sponsored by the Ohio Wander Freundein in co-operation with the Englewood Festival and Arts Commission. Originating in Germany, a Volksmarch is a 5K walk on trails that follow bikeways and city sidewalks. Starting time is 8 a.m. to noon. Walkers should finish by 3 p.m. All must register at the Volksmarch tent at Centennial Park. Anyone can participate but American Volkssport Association members must complete, sign and carry a start card. Cost for this accredited walk is $3.
A popular Sunday festival event is the 11th annual Cruise-In and Charity Auction with E/Rider car, truck, and bike show at Centennial Park, with registration running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The $10 registration fee is payable at the gate. The first 100 registered to bring a new toy will receive a free T-shirt. The show, auction, and awards will conclude at 4 p.m. Auto related donations will be accepted for the auction. All proceeds will be donated to Dayton Children’s Hospital.
