CLAYTON — At Northmont Board of Education’s last meeting of the summer held August 8 at Northwood Elementary, Board President Linda Blum welcomed incoming Superintendent Tony Thomas.

Open House has been set at all buildings and families are invited and encouraged visit their child’s school to meet the staff and visit the classroom. The Middle School will host “Meet the Teams” night on Monday, August 15. The elementary buildings will all have Open House on Tuesday, August 16. High School Open House is Wednesday August 17, followed by Preschool and 1st Grade Open House at the Kleptz Early Learning Center on Thursday, August 18. All times are listed on the District Calendar.

Thomas also shared with the Board the new state law that states all schools in Ohio must assess all junior students with either the ACT or SAT in the 2016-17school year. The test dates are March 21 and April 18 and a makeup on May 3. This is one of the three options that students have to be considered for graduation.

Students must achieve a remediation free score (English18, Reading 22 and Math22) on the ACT, or tally 18 points on End of Course Exams, or be awarded an Industrial Credential.

Thomas also updated the Board on the Healthy Choices for Healthy Children Act that was prepared by Food Service Director Pamela Pearson.
