PIQUA — The pin placements were tricky and the course much drier than those in the Dayton area due to a lack of rain when the Northmont boys golf team competed Monday in the 30th and final Scott Homan Memorial Invitational at Piqua Country Club.

Hosted by Piqua High School and the Homan family for three decades, the tournament was established as a tribute to former Piqua golf standout Scott Homan who died in a car accident.

“The Northmont Golf Program is grateful for the opportunity to play in this 18 team field,” said Northmont Coach Nathan Hannahan. “We are sad that the tournament has come to an end, but we will cherish the great memories of competitions past as we move forward.”

Northmont finished 5th in the 18 team field. Sophomore David Richards led the Thunderbolts by recording a career best round of 84. Sophomore Noah Thayer also scored a career best round of 88 while Alec Avdakov, another sophomore, cut nine strokes off his front nine score with a 40 on the back nine to post an 89. Junior Cole Stephens rounded out the top four with a 94. Sophomore Jackson Trottier scored a 99.

“The drought that has plagued many parts of Ohio has not been kind to Piqua Country Club making playing conditions fast and firm,” Hannahan added. “We held our composure well on the lightning fast greens. The 355 team total is our best to date.”

Northmont will compete in the Miamisburg Invitational on Wednesday at Pipestone Golf Club.
