DAYTON — The Northmont Mock Trial team competed on Friday, January 29 in the Ohio Mock Trial district competition.

Northmont’s defense team of attorneys Gracie Fink (senior) and Hannah Thompson (senior) and witnesses Rachel Tracy (senior) and Courtney Gibson (sophomore) took on Springfield High School, with Northmont scoring a decisive victory. Hannah Thompson was named the trial’s outstanding attorney with Rachel Tracy winning outstanding witness.

In order to advance on to district competition, Northmont’s plaintiff team of attorneys Samantha Kerns (junior) and Kara Combs (junior) and witnesses Rachel Tracy (senior) and Faith Thompson (freshman) would have to defeat Vandalia-Butler. Northmont again posted a decisive win, with Samantha Kerns winning outstanding attorney honors and Rachel Tracy picking up her second outstanding witness award of the day (for playing two different roles).

The team will now advance on to regional competition at the Montgomery County Courthouse on Friday, February 19. The Northmont Mock Trial team is coached by Social Studies teacher David Jones and legal advisor Dennis Lieberman.
