CLAYTON — Freshman Avianna Ewing scored Northmont’s only goal of the night to help the Lady Bolts overcome a 1-0 deficit Monday against Chaminade-Julienne to secure a 1-1 tie.
Ewing’s goal came with 28:20 remaining in the match. Logan Dix gave C-J a 1-0 lead when Northmont goalkeeper Taylor Pritchett misjudged Dix kick, a high looper, and came too far out to try to catch the ball. Pritchett over-ran the ball, which landed behind her and rolled into the goal.
“Our inexperience kind of haunted us,” said Northmont Coach Ted Mergler. “We fell behind early on a goal that probably shouldn’t have happened, but I still have faith in Taylor. She is a solid goalie but she is going to make mistakes. The problem is, when you make mistakes back there it shows on the scoreboard. The girls did a good job. They fought back and we had several great opportunities, one off the post and a couple of rebounds that we just couldn’t get a foot on. We created several opportunities but the bottom line is we just couldn’t get it in the back of the net.”
Northmont was also without a few of its better players. Sydney Caras is out with a non-soccer related injury and McKenzie Stefanoff was also out with an injury. During the match Jillian Naas also went down with an injury.
“Naas is a big player to have out there. She kind of controls a lot of the midfield for us,” Mergler added.
With the tie C-J’s record moved to 5-6-2 while Northmont went to 5-7-2 overall.
