CLAYTON — After an opening round win in the ACME sectional tournament the Northmont Tancs ended up falling Sunday to Greenville Technologies Inc. to the tune of 8-5.
GTI took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning, added two more runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth to take an 8-0 lead.
Northmont battled back with one run in the sixth and four in the seventh, but that was all the Tancs could muster.
C.J. Vanschaik, Justin Schuh and Collin Hobert got three consecutive singles and GTI committed a fielding error when Austin Kossoudji put the ball in play that allowed Vanschaik and Schuh to score with Hobert advancing to third. Adam Bendinelli singled to score Hobert. Jonathan Eber drew a walk to load the bases and Doug Bauser drew a bases loaded to walk drive-in the Tancs final run.
Colin Hobert got charged with the loss. He allowed six runs in 4 and 1/3 innings, walked one and recorded three strikeouts.
Kossoudji led the offense by going 2 for 4 with two doubles, scored twice and had two RBI. A.J. Staley, Vanschaik, Schuh Hobert, Bendinelli, Dylan Guth, and Jonathan Eber got one hit each.
Netzley led Greenville by going 3 for 4 with three RBI and one run. Pandey and Bowers both went 2 for 4 with two runs and one RBI each.
The defeat kicked Northmont into the losers’ bracket of the double elimination tournament.
