CLAYTON — With a 12-2 shellacking of Troy in 5 innings Saturday the Northmont Tancs won their opening round game in the ACME sectional tournament at Northmont High School, which is the host site for both the sectional and district tournament this year.
Northmont broke the game wide open with six runs in the fourth inning to take an 11-2 lead. Collin Hobert belted a two-run double, Gage Beireis drew a walk and C.J. Vanschaik hit an RBI single and Troy committed a two-run error that contributed to the six-run outburst.
Austin Kossoudji got the win on the mound by allowing only two runs in three innings of work. He struck out four, issued one walk and scattered four hits. Kossoudji also hit a double in the first inning to drive-in Hobert who reached base on a single.
Leading the offense was Hobert who went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBI, Kossoudji 2 for 3 with one run and two RBI, Noah Birdsall 2 for 3 with two runs, Jonathan Eber 1 for 3 with two runs and one RBI, Gage Beireis 1 for 2 with two runs and one RBI, C.J. Vanschaik 1 for 3 with two RBI, Dylan Guth 1 for 2 with two runs and Ben Weatherford 1 for 2 with one run and one RBI.
With the victory the Tancs advanced to play Greenville Technologies Inc. on Sunday at noon (see related story).
