PIQUA — Ben Mangen, of Clayton, signed Wednesday a National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Edison State Community College beginning in the fall of 2016.

“We are thrilled to sign a player of his caliber,” said Edison State Coach Scott Jones. “We feel that Ben is a guy with tremendous upside with a high ceiling. Although we feel that pitching has the most potential for him at the higher levels of baseball, he is an excellent position player as well and will have the chance to do both for us, which speaks to his athletic ability. Ben was a first team All-Conference selection as well as Conference Player of the Year as a senior.”

During his senior year at Northmont High School, as a pitcher for the Thunderbolts in 53 and 2/3 innings Mangen compiled a record of 6-1 with 63 strikeouts and an ERA of 3.26. He also hit seven doubles, two triples and two home runs and drove in 28 runs with a batting average of .273.

Edison State’s baseball team competes in the Ohio Community College Athletic Conference (OCCAC) and as Division II members of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
