Northmont Jr. High wrestling ends regular season

The Northmont Middle School wrestling team took 2nd place at the Lima Shawnee Best of the Midwest Tournament.

LIMA — The Northmont Junior High wrestling team wrapped up its regular season with a 2nd place finish at the Lima Shawnee Best of the Midwest Tournament.

Champions for the Bolts were Andrew Knick, Jazz Keys, Phil Tracey, and Jacob Staley. Also placing were Bryce Asher 2nd, Noah Reidy 3rd, Mason Sigler 4th, Drew Fitzgerald 4th, Noah Wilkins 5th, Colin Mellott 5th, Keaton Kesling 5th, Logan Jacobs 6th, James Wilson 6th.

The team improved to 87-6 on the season. Season highlights included repeating as GWOC champions, 2X Bulldog Champions, and 2X Wapakoneta Champions. The team also placed 3rd at Butler Duals and 3rd at Mount Vernon.

Leading the team were Andrew Knick 33-3, Phil Tracey 36-0, Jacob Staley 33-2, Jazz Keys 28-5, Logan Jacobs 22-9, Keaton Kesling 26-6, Bryce Asher 30-7, Drew Fitzgerald 18-10, Mason Sigler 26-6, Eli Newburg 26-5, and Colin Mellott 23-7. Also contributing to the team were Johnny Reser, Cooper Love, Noah Reidy, Noah Wilkins, James Wilson, Jeffery Ullery, and Brian Jones.

Many of these wrestlers will continue their pursuit of an individual state title March 12&13 in Youngstown. The team looks to defend its State Duals title March 6 at Worthington Killbourne.
