GREENVILLE — On Wednesday, August 12 the Northmont Girls Golf Team scored a victory over Greenville at Turtle Creek Golf Course. Northmont shot a 208 while Greenville came in at 230.
Britney Hansard led the Lady Bolts with a score of 48. Morgan Sterner carded a 52, Amara Tipple and Sarah Avdakov both shot 54.
“Our girls seemed to be finding a lot of hazards at Turtle Creek, including ponds and creeks,” said Coach Vivian Bibler. “Our higher score resulted from penalty strokes. Course management is another area that we need to work on when we go to a new course. Knowing yardage and knowing we need to lay up on a certain shot or that we can carry a hazard or which side of the fairway we need to be on to avoid a hazard is course management. Most of the girls had never played at that course before.”
Bibler said she hopes to acquaint the players with other courses the team travels to so that they can avoid getting into trouble on certain fairways.
“The tee shot is kind of difficult. You just have to put it in play, but on the second shot you can place the ball where you need to in order to avoid a hazard,” she said. “We talk our way through the course but without actually being there, it is difficult for the players to grasp.”
Bibler noted that when the team played Miami Valley Country Club the team recorded a lower score even though the greens were much harder.
