Improvements made at Centennial Park

ENGLEWOOD — Local residents might have noticed that some improvements have been made to Englewood’s Centennial Park over the summer.

New playground equipment and park benches were installed replacing some of the old, outdated equipment. The project was partially funded through a recycling incentive grant acquired from the Montgomery County Solid Waste District. To qualify for the grant, all the new equipment was required to be made from recycled materials and be environmentally friendly.

All the new equipment adheres to all ASTM playground standards and is ADA compliant. The new playground equipment is geared towards kids ages 2-12. New surfacing material was also installed around the new playground equipment. In addition, the old park benches were removed and replaced with new bench units made from recycled plastics. The new benches have a much nicer and more modern look which really serves to enhance the park.

In addition to the grant projects, the pond at Centennial Park is also in the process of getting a makeover. Sediment that had built up on the bottom of the pond over the years was pumped out and removed and new rock work will be added around the perimeter of the pond to improve its appearance and also help prevent future erosion.
