DAYTON — End summer with a month of fun events and activities at RiverScape MetroPark, located at 237 E. Monument Ave. This August, visitors can raise a glass during RiverScape MetroPark’s first Germanfest Picnic and Pickin’ in the Park concertgoers can get a taste of outdoor adventure at Urban Outdoor Experience, a preview of fall’s Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience.

Music @ Lunch: Grab food from a rotating selection of food trucks, enjoy live music and free WiFi. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Monday through Friday, through Sept. 29.

Fitness in the Park: These free exercise sessions are held most Saturdays from 10 to 11 a.m. Participants should bring their own water bottles and towels or mats. Classes vary between Zumba and Yoga, and the class schedule can be found online at metroparks.org/RiverScape. Yoga sessions are sponsored by Bridge Credit Union.

Pickin’ in the Park: Guests are welcome to enjoy an evening of progressive bluegrass music under the RiverScape Pavilion during the season’s last Pickin’ in the Park. Delicious bites from local food trucks and craft beer will be available for purchase. This free, all ages event is sponsored by Mikesell’s Snack Food Company.

• August 4, 5:30 to 10 p.m.: Mad River Railroad, Growler and Whisky Bent Valley Boys

Urban Outdoor Experience: Try your hand at mountain biking skill elements, slacklining, disc golf and more during this free outdoor recreation sampler. Urban Outdoor Experience is a small preview of what people can do at the Wagner Subaru Outdoor Experience at Eastwood MetroPark this fall. After, enjoy the sounds of Pickin’ in the Park and grab dinner from a local food truck.

• August 4, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Big Band Nights: The public is welcome to enjoy classic instruments, upbeat tunes and dancing during the last Big Band Night performance in August.

• August 17, 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.: Dayton Jazz Orchestra

The RiverScape Summer Music series concerts are sponsored by Dayton.com and are free for all ages. Concertgoers should bring a lawn chair for seating.

Festivals: There are a myriad of community festivals and activities at RiverScape MetroPark throughout the summer. The public is welcome to enjoy the following festivals this August and September:

• Friday, August 11 (5 – 11 p.m.), Saturday, August 12 (11 a.m. to 11 p.m.), Sunday, August 13 (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.): Germanfest Picnic

• Saturday, Sept. 3 (1 to 8 p.m.): Dayton Reggae Festival

• Sunday, Sept. 10 (4 to 9 p.m.): Miami Valley Peacebuilders Walk & WYSO Concert Series

• Saturday, Sept. 16 (11 a.m. to 11 p.m.): Hispanic Heritage Festival

• Saturday, Sept. 16 (4:30 p.m.): Rubber Duck Regatta

RiverScape Rentals helps riders explore the Dayton region’s more than 300 miles of paved recreational trails—the nation’s largest paved trail network—with cruisers, road bikes, tandems and child attachments available for rent. Push bikes are also available for toddlers so they can learn to ride. RiverScape Rentals is open weekends through Labor Day, Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Visit metroparks.org/riverscape-rentals for more information.

The Fountain Snack Bar offers ice cream and snacks through Labor Day weekend, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., with extended hours during special evening events. Visit metroparks.org for additional information.

The Five Rivers Fountain of Lights and interactive fountain also will be open through Labor Day.

While enjoying summer activities at RiverScape MetroPark, visitors also are welcome to watch paddlers in the new RiverScape River Run. Those who are interested in experiencing the feature may grab their gear and enjoy the beautiful seven-mile paddle from Eastwood MetroPark on the Mad River, through downtown to the Carillon Historical Park and University of Dayton area.
