Box 21 Rescue seeking sponsors for rodeo

Staff Report

DAYTON — The Box 21 Rodeo, a Dayton tradition for over 50 years, will return to its original home of the Montgomery County Fairgrounds for a three-day show, June 24-26, 2016.

This event has been the biggest fundraiser in Box 21’s 80 year history, and all proceeds are used to purchase and replenish emergency and first aid equipment. Sponsorship is desperately needed to bring the event to fruition so that the funds for the equipment and supplies can be raised.

Today Box 21 is the area’s oldest continuously operating, all volunteer, emergency service organization. No member receives any compensation for their participation, and no service provided by Box 21 is ever billed for. Funding is provided solely by donations, fundraisers, and dues paid by the members. No tax dollars or levy money is ever received from any municipality, leaving Box 21 free to serve without the limitations of jurisdiction.

From Headquarters on Island park in Dayton, Ohio, Box 21 operates Rescue Trucks, Mobile Intensive Care Ambulances, Canteen and Rehab services, and Water Rescue boats, equipment, and divers.

Aid is rendered primarily to Fire, Police, SWAT, and other EMS agencies as requested. By providing our services, we help the other departments better perform their primary functions or provide EMS at Special Events so that the local departments don’t need to take a unit out of service and can remain available for their community.

Box 21 consists of volunteers who are all Emergency Responders, EMTs or Paramedics. Many are Firefighters, Police Officers, Divers, or Search and Rescue personnel. By providing these necessary services Box 21 maintains the tradition of Helping Those Who Help Others since 1935.

Box 21 has formed a new allegiance with Buckeye Rodeo Company from Lakeville, Ohio. Buckeye Rodeo Company was formed in 1971 and has been nationally recognized with numerous repeated awards such as Stock Contractor of the Year, Rodeo of the Year, Top Announcer, Top Bull, and Top Saddle Bronc of the Year. Buckeye Rodeo Company owns and provides care for their own livestock and has raised most of their animals from birth or very young ages. They consider their livestock pets (and in some cases “family”) and provide them with the best of care.

The Box 21 Rodeo was a long-standing tradition in the Miami Valley and this returning event will also serve as a reunion for any persons or families that have been involved with Box 21 over the past 80 years of service. The return of the rodeo promises to be a grand spectacular that will entertain all and leave families wanting more
