CLAYTON — State Representative Jeff Rezabek performed the swearing in of recently elected and re-elected members of Clayton Council at last Thursday night’s meeting.

Taking the oath of office was Ken Henning (re-elected), Mike Stevens (newly elected) and Vice Mayor Tim Gorman (re-elected).

A special presentation was made by Trotwood Mayor Mary McDonald.

“Mayor, council and guests, I am so excited to be here tonight,” McDonald said. “I have a citation for you from the mayor’s office.”

The citation was in acknowledgment of Clayton’s commitment to developing strong regional partnerships with its neighboring jurisdictions.

“The City of Trotwood wants the City of Clayton to know it is committed to working with Clayton in collaborative efforts on federal, state and local issues that impact the communities,” McDonald read from the citation. “Therefore, it is my sincere and genuine interest, I, Mayor McDonald, mayor of the City of Trotwood, is pleased to offer the right hand of fellowship with collaboration with the City of Clayton, Ohio.”

Clayton Mayor Joyce Deitering thanked McDonald for the citation and congratulated her on her recent election to office.

Councilman Greg Merkle nominated Tim Gorman to serve as vice mayor which was seconded by Councilman Dennis Lieberman. Gorman was unanimously reappointed to serve as vice mayor.

Councilman Ken Henning was reappointed to serve on the Cost Recovery Impact Fee Appeals Board to fill an expired term.

Lieberman was appointed to serve on the Cost Recovery Impact Fee Appeals Board to fill an unexpired term.

Gorman, Merkle and Henning (alternate) were appointed as Clayton representatives to the First Suburbs Consortium for the year 2016.

Gorman and Stevens were appointed to serve as representatives on the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission and Transportation Committee for the year 2016.

Council Members Tina Kelly and Lieberman were reappointed to serve on the Volunteer Firefighters Dependence Fund for 2016.

“The City of Clayton has joined Ohio Checkbook.com, meaning all of our financial records are available online,” said City Manager Rick Rose. “If you go to ohiocheckbook.com and click on the City of Clayton, you will be able to see all of the transactions that transpire there. As Mayor McDonald stated and so graciously came to honor us for our cooperation, I would like to announce tonight that one of the things we have submitted for this year to the Miami Valley Regional Planning Commission, along with the City of Trotwood, is for a resurfacing project to resurface three miles of Westbrook Road.”

Rose said the grant the two cities applied for totals approximately $318,000, which would be very helpful to both communities if approved. The project is for fiscal year 2017, which actually starts on July 1, 2016.
