The following information has been provided by Northmont area police departments. The information listed in this column is considered public record and is available to anyone seeking information concerning what is provided below.

For purposes of this column, the term “arrested” or “charged” does not necessarily mean the person was taken into physical custody. It could also indicate that a summons was issued to the subject in lieu of physical custody.

All the people listed as “arrested” or “charged” are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Thursday, Nov. 17

City of Union

Report 16-064038: The theft of a .40 caliber High Point Carbine from an unlocked garage was reported on Sheets Street.

Friday, Nov. 18

City of Union

Report 16-064306: Steven P. Carpenter, 40, of Union, was charged with domestic violence and was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Saturday, Nov. 19

City of Union

Report 16-064473: The theft of gold knife, gold and red watch, gold chain necklace and an Xbox controller was reported on Charles Place.

Sunday, Nov. 20

City of Union

Report 16-064640: Police responded to the Toll House Tavern on the report of a fight in progress. While speaking with one of the persons involved outside the officer was notified that another fight was taking place inside and he called for mutual aid. The officer went inside and clamed everyone down. No one wished to press charges. All parties involved were asked to leave, which they did.

Friday, Nov. 25

City of Union

Report 16-065552: Anthony L. Foster, 28, of Troy, was arrested on an active warrant and was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Saturday, Nov. 26

Clay Township

Report 16-3236-11: While on patrol an officer observed a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 10000 block of Baltimore-Phillipsburg Road. After shining a spotlight on the vehicle the officer noticed the vehicle’s windows were all fogged up. The officer approached the vehicle and knocked on the driver’s window and told the driver to roll the window down. When the window was rolled down the driver was found to be naked with a sheet covering his lap and a female in the passenger seat was putting her clothes on. Another officer arrived to assist. A strong odor of alcohol was detected coming from the driver’s side of the vehicle. The officer observed an open container of beer on the floorboard next to the driver’s seat. After having the driver step to the rear of one of the police cruisers an officer removed the can of beer and found a green glass pipe next to it. The driver was placed in the backseat of a police cruiser. The female was then asked to step from the vehicle and asked if she had anything in her jacket pockets. She placed her right hand in her right jacket pocket and removed some papers and a clear plastic bag containing a white substance fell to the ground. The female stated, “That’s not mine.” She was placed in the backseat of a second cruiser. The beer, pipe and plastic bag were collected as evidence. The driver refused to submit to a field sobriety test. His vehicle was towed and both subjects were transported to the police department. Eric T. Wolfe, 54, Dayton 45405, was charged with having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence, illegal use or possession of drug paraphernalia, open container, refusal of a chemical test, and possession of drugs. Kimberly R. Venable, 30, of Huber Heights, was charged with possession of drugs. Wolfe and Venable were each issued a court summons and released to a sober driver.

Monday, Nov. 28

City of Union

Report 16-066079: The theft of $290 worth of rolled coins was reported stolen from a residence on Merrymaid Drive. The victim stated the coins turned up missing after a baby sitter had been in the home.

Clay Township

Report 16-3257-11: A complaint was filed in the 9100 block of Pleasant Plain Road about two dogs running loose. An officer located one dog two houses west of its owner’s property and the second dog on its property but not confined. The officer was able to round up both dogs and get them contained on the back porch. The owner of the dogs was not home at the time. An officer left a business card in the front door with a notice to contact him about the dogs.

Tuesday, Nov. 29

City of Englewood

Report 16-066264: Police responded to the area of Meadow Thrush and Swallowtail on the report of a Pitbull dog running loose. An officer located the dog and was able to secure it in the backseat of the police cruiser. Melodie A. Peeks, 52, of Englewood (Clayton Zip Code 45315), was charged with control of dogs and issued a court summons.

Report 16-066274: An unknown white male, approximately 6-feet, 2-inches tall with a heavier build, wearing jeans and a blue hooded sweatshirt, fled out of the south doors at Meijer after failing to pay for merchandise. According to store security personnel the male placed a pair of sunglasses on his head and then took an MP3 player and concealed it inside his hooded sweatshirt. Store personnel tried to detain the subject but he fled into the tree lined area. Store security recovered the stolen items at the southern tree line. Officers were unable to locate the suspect.

Report 16-066277: Unknown subjects cut a strand of Christmas lights at a residence in the 4100 block of Gorman Ave.

Wednesday, Nov. 30

City of Clayton

Report 16-2768: Police responded to Dayton Lung and Sleep Medicine on a theft complaint. The victim stated that he had just finished having a sleep study performed and walked to his locked vehicle where he discovered his passenger side window had been smashed in. A black backpack was stolen from the passenger seat that contained an Apple Macbook Air laptop computer and an external hard drive and two school books.

Report 16-2772: The theft of a 9 millimeter semiautomatic handgun was reported at a residence in the 6300 block of Noranda Dr. The victim advised that several people had been in and out of the residence recently and at first he thought he had misplaced it, but he could not locate the gun.

Report 16-2774: Unknown subjects stole the American flag off the flagpole at VFW Post 7741. The flag is displayed 24 hours a day and none of the employees had taken it down. Security camera footage will be reviewed in an attempt to identify a suspect.

Report 16-2777: An officer on patrol observed a disabled vehicle stationary in the roadway westbound on Old Salem Road at Dominican Drive. Upon approaching the vehicle the driver advised he had run out of gas and was waiting for a family member to bring him some extra gas. The driver was found to be a wanted subject. An odor of marijuana was also detected coming from the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed more than 2.3 grams of marijuana and a Kel-Tec 9 millimeter semiautomatic handgun concealed under the driver’s seat. Warren J. Sutton, 22, of Clayton, was charged with possession of drugs and was arrested on a warrant issued by the Ohio State Patrol. He was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Clay Township

Report 16-3274-11: Four counterfeit checks that had duplicate numbers from checks that already been cashed was reported at Englewood Truck. The fraudulent checks were discovered during a monthly audit.

Thursday, Dec. 1

City of Clayton

Report 16-2782: Breaking and entering to a storage shed was reported at VFW Post 7741. Nothing was taken from the shed.

City of Englewood

Report 16-066672: Danielle L. Jewell, 24, of Dayton 45404, was charged with theft at Meijer. She was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Clay Township

Report 16-3283-12: After making a traffic stop the driver was found to be a wanted subject and also charged for two offenses. Justin T. Richards, 23, of Hollansburg, was charged with driving under suspension, possession of marijuana and arrested on a warrant for probation violation out of Montgomery County Western Division Court. Richards was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Friday, Dec. 2

City of Englewood

Report 16-066845: Police were dispatched to Hoke Road at Smith Drive on the report of a fight in progress. Ray’Shawn A. Shropshire, 18, of Trotwood, was charged with disorderly conduct / fighting. He was issued a court summons and released. Dutch N. Woods, 23, of Dayton 45405, was charged disorderly conduct / fighting. He was issued a court summons and released.

Report 16-066884: Leanna R. Benton, 25, of West Milton, was charged with theft at Walmart. She was issued a court summons and released.

Saturday, Dec. 3

City of Clayton

Report 16-2798: Police were dispatched to the area of Cognac’s bar on a noise complaint. An officer parked in a neighborhood behind the bar for 10 minutes with his windows down. During the entire 10 minute period a loud thumping sound of bass from music being in the bar could be heard. The officer made contact with the bar owner and advised him the music was too loud. Due to numerous prior warnings David D. Martin, 37, of Trotwood, was charged with playing loud music. He was issued a court summons.

Report 16-2800: While using a hand held radar on Sweet Potato Ridge Road a westbound vehicle was clocked at 66 miles per hour in a posted 45 miles per hour zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop and detected an odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The driver denied having any marijuana and stated that he does not smoke it. When asked if there were any weapons in the vehicle he advised there were none. The driver was removed and placed in a police cruiser while a vehicle search was performed. A second officer arrived and a Taurus TCP .380 pistol was found in a compartment in the dashboard. Leonard Broyles, 51, of Union, was charged with speeding and improper handling of a firearm inside a motor vehicle. An Ohio BCI database DNA sample was obtained before Broyles was transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

City of Englewood

Report 16-066920: Courtland B. Monaghan, 25, of Englewood, was charged with assault following a fight at the Chateau Apartments. He was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail. The victim of the fight, David A. Fox, 22, of Englewood, was arrested on an active warrant and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Report 16-067220:

Clay Township

Report 16-3313-12: Thomas J. Lawson, 21, of Lewisburg, was arrested on a Clay Township warrant for failure to appear on a drug charge. He was taken into custody and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Sunday, Dec. 4

City of Englewood

Report 16-067220: Theft was reported at the Villas of Englewood. An unknown male subject captured on a video surveillance camera pried a door off the laundry room closet and removed tools. The suspect also stole the door after removing it. The video footage shows a male wearing a black vest with white sleeves and a pair of jeans with a decorative design on the back pockets. The suspect’s face was covered by a dust respirator mask.

Monday, Dec. 5

City of Clayton

Report 16-2817: An officer stopped to check on a disabled vehicle at Shell True North and discovered one of the occupants was a wanted subject. Matthew M. Hardin, 20, of Eaton, was arrested on an active warrant and transported to the Montgomery County Jail.

Report 16-2821: Theft was reported at Lily and Lace Boutique in Randolph Plaza. Store security camera footage revealed an unknown black female placed several rings and a bracelet in her pocket and then left the business without paying.
