Vandalia, Northmont Lions Clubs celebrate 75th anniversary

VANDALIA — The April 6 joint Ladies Nite dinner meeting of the Vandalia and Northmont Lions Clubs was a celebratioon of their 75 years of community service. Both the Vandalia and Northmont clubs receiving their Charters in April of 1942.

The featured speaker was Lion John B. “Ben” Cosgray, Chairman of Ohio Lions Council of District Governors. He is a member of the Plain City Lions Club. The Vandalila and Northmont District includes 15 Counties of South West Ohio.

Cosgray spoke on the history of Lionism, which was founded by Chicago businessman Melvin Jones in 1917, which means this is also the Centennial Year of Lions. Also covered were future plans for continued World Service.

Another high-point of the evening was presentation of Melvin Jones Fellowship Awards to Vandalia Lion John Dunn and Northmont Lion Bill Schindel. The Award is the Foundations highest honor in recognition of a commitment to humanitarian service. Congratulations to both Clubs and especially to Lions Dunn and Schindel.
